What is vinyl plank?

An image for the surface of the flooring is created with 3-D photography. This remarkably clear image highlights every knot, raised grain, swirl, and veining. The vinyl is then cut into strips and mounted on boards to resemble a plank.

There are embossing features, so the floor can have the appearance of being wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered or distressed, with either matte or gloss finishes.

Some people use it to mimic stone; they feel the larger format and fewer seams give it a more continuous look. While it’s possible to get luxury vinyl cut into tile-sized pieces, many will use this instead, since large format tiles are trending right now.

It looks so real that many cannot tell the difference between that and the real thing. You’ll know, however, when you receive the bill and see how affordable it is.

Completely waterproof, ultra-durable

Vinyl plank flooring is completely impervious to water and thicker than standard vinyl. It is a layered product, with a top sheet coated with clear aluminum oxide to protect against scratches and scuffs.

Spills sit at the top, so they can be easily wiped off.

Easy maintenance

Just sweep frequently with a soft broom. Damp-mop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners; the result will be exactly the opposite of what you want. Rather, if you think the floor is starting to look dull, call your retailer for advice.

Installation is a snap, literally

With a few exceptions, vinyl can be placed over existing subfloors. Each plank just clicks or snaps together like a puzzle. It can be DIY friendly to the more experienced homeowner, but we encourage you to get a professional installation.
